Grill Temperature
400°F
Cook Time
45 minutes
Ingredients
Filling
- 2 lbs apples, cored and halved
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 refrigerated rolled pie crust
- ½ cup caramel sauce
Custard
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
1.
Preheat the Grill. Preheat the grill to 400°F.
2.
Prepare the Crust. Press the pie crust into a tart pan, pressing evenly along the bottom and sides. Spread the caramel sauce evenly over the bottom of the crust.
3.
Prepare the Apples. Use a mandolin to slice the apples ⅛-inch thick for consistent slices. Place the slices in a bowl and toss with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt until evenly coated.
4.
Arrange the Apples. Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern in the tart pan until the surface is filled.
5.
Prepare the Custard. Whisk the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, and salt until the sugar dissolves. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove any lumps.
6.
Fill the Tart. Slowly pour the custard over the apples, allowing it to settle between the slices.
7.
Bake. Place the tart on the grill and bake for 45 minutes, or until the custard is fully set.
8.
Cool and Serve. Cool on a wire rack, then refrigerate before serving. Serve with whipped cream.
