Ingredients
- 4½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup additional all-purpose flour (for kneading)
- 1 cup ground old-fashioned oats
- ½ cup honey
- 1½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp kosher salt
- 1¾ cups buttermilk
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 large egg, whisked
- 1 cup raisins
- ¼ cup whiskey
Instructions

Soak the Raisins: Place the raisins in a bowl and pour the whiskey over them. Let soak while preparing the dough.

Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, ground oats, baking soda, and salt.

Mix the Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and honey.

Cut in the Butter: Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients and mix until the butter is evenly distributed.
5.
Form the Dough: Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough begins to form. Fold in the soaked raisins.
6.
Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 2–3 minutes.
7.
Shape: Form the dough into a round loaf. Lightly dust the top with flour and cut a cross in the top.
Bake
Preheat oven or grill to 375°F.
Place the dough in a parchment-lined 9-inch cast iron pan or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 195°F.
Cool
Transfer to a wire rack and cover loosely with a kitchen towel while cooling.
